SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA - SEPTEMBER, 2016 - Kenneth Walter, co-founder of Steven Engineering, Inc., passed away on August 30, 2016. He was 72.
Under his 41 years of leadership, Steven Engineering, Inc. grew its distribution business to represent a wide portfolio of customer focused solutions and manufacturers; centered on electrical control, automation, pneumatic and motion products. While focusing primarily on the OEM markets, Steven Engineering was rewarded with substantial growth and customer diversity. The company received numerous industry accolades and recognition for their innovative approach.
Ken cared deeply about the personal growth and well-being of his company’s employees. Even as the company grew he was proud that they maintained a family culture. He would often describe the organization as a ‘big company in a small shell’.
Throughout his career, Ken served in different roles: working as a draftsman for Cutler-Hammer, achieving top sales person of AA Electric (Wisconsin), establishing AA Electric’s location in Lakeland, Florida and eventually acquiring a small distributor in California in 1975 – Steven Engineering.
Ken was larger than life, was driven by a need for success and always expected more from himself than anybody could possibly deliver. He was always planning the next big adventure, whether attending a rock concert, athletic event or expanding his business. He was known for his generosity, often surprising friends, colleagues and family with large and small gifts. Ken was fiercely loyal to friends, family, and his extended family, which included his employees.
Ken was born in West Bend, Wisconsin, and was the beloved son of the late Don and Joyce Walter and Dorothy and Ronnie Elsinger.
Ken is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Chad (Aimee); and grandchildren.
