Embedded controllers are often the heart of an industrial control system or a process control application. The main differentiating feature of an embedded controller is that all system operations are not controlled by an external PC. They may also be at the center of a portable data acquisition system or remote controller that enables an application to keep running even if its link to the outside world is cut.
