A limit switch is operated by the motion of a machine part or presence of an object. They are used for controlling machinery as part of a control system, such as safety interlocks, or to detect objects passing a point. Offered with a variety of operators, including lever, roller plunger, and whisker types, limit switches are directly actuated by the mechanical motion of the operating lever.
