Identification sensors detect items through the use of tags or barcode labels. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. The tags contain electronically stored information. A barcode reader (or barcode scanner) is an electronic device that can read printed barcode labels then decodes the barcode’s image into an identification number.
